WHO ARE WE?
Lucem Guitars' owner and builder Graham Skimming is a musician, engineer, qualified, and experienced Luthier/ Guitar Technician based in Cumbria, UK.
Graham built his first guitar in 1995 at age 15 as a school GSCE project for which he was awarded a grade A in Design & Technology. Following an engineering apprenticeship, he went on to study guitar making and electronics at the prestigious Leeds College of Music. He graduated with an HND in Musical Instrument Technology with distinction in 2003. He started his own business making and repairing instruments and secured regular work from the likes of Overwater, Northern Sounds and many respected Cumbrian musicians.
Graham has had the privilege of working with and being mentored by some of the best in the business, including Ted Lee, Shane Haigh (The String Surgeon), Hadyn Williams (Williams Guitars and Overwater Basses), Chris May (Overwater Basses) and Pavel Burres (BSG Guitars).
In parallel to all this, Graham has furthered his engineering career, achieved higher national qualifications in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Computer-Aided Design, and is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET).
Tonelabs Limited is now in its tenth successful year of trading, specialising in the design of high integrity control and electrical and instrumentation systems. Graham strives to apply the same levels of quality, innovation and attention to detail to his instruments.
